Race for the Cure

Elizabeth, Grannie and Betsy joined me for the Race (walk) for the Cure this Saturday morning. It was a gorgeous day, not too cold, sunny. A perfect October sky! We did the walk, ate a bagel, talked to some interesting women and got free goodies. After the race I joined the other survivors on the ball field for closing ceremonies. It was a moving, awesome experience. I am so lucky to have supportive people around to do these things with me!! Next year we want to have enough for a team (10 people) so be thinking about that! Love you all.

A little piece of art

I made this little Mary Shrine last night in art class. Yes, it is in a sardine can...no I did not eat the sardines. If you have any sardine cans hanging around your house I would love to have them...please eat the sardines first (or feed them to your cat, or whatever!) Thanks!

I've been playing today!

Today I ran away to the zoo...alone...with no children. I saw about a dozen different kinds of butterflys, had lunch with the Bison and had a conversation with a Wild Ass (which was not human, by the way). He didn't have much to say other than HEE HAW which actually was kind of what I was thinking as I wandered the zoo at my own pace, looked at only what I cared to see and didn't have to play on the jungle gym. I did, however, treat myself to an ICEE drink (white cherry, yum). It was very quiet there this morning. I highly recommend it.

Ok, so I just resisted a donut.

You Are a Boston Creme Donut

You have a tough exterior. No one wants to mess with you.
But on the inside, you're a total pushover and completely soft.
You're a traditionalist, and you don't change easily.
You're likely to eat the same doughnut every morning, and pout if it's sold out.

CELEBRATION!!

Today was my last treatment!! When I was done the radiation techs started applauding and cheering! Very funny (it is a very quiet place at 7:00 am!) I took "the kids" a big basket of breakfast stuff which they immediately dug into (they are kids afterall!) I must say that even though radiation itself isn't so much fun, I got to know some great people on my radiation team. They were always smiling and always had something encouraging to say. This is alot from 20 somethings that arrive before 6:00 am to be ready for me at 7:00! A grand experience to add to my collection. But I'm through...yes, the happy dance is happening! Keep well, I love you all!

The Everglades

So, for some unknown reason the blogspot decided not to publish these where they belonged. This was the last day of Patterson's trip...maybe the site is afraid of alligators??

Just back away slowwwwly....

Another Pirate Patt update

Just talked to the boy. He is safe on land at Sea Base, getting decked out for a Luau tonight. They will wrestle alligators in the Everglades tomorrow morning before boarding another type of vessel for home! I hope I'll have some real pictures to share soon. Swimming with sharks, etc.

Ahoy Mateys!

An update on the sailing boy. Last evening he called to say they were anchored off Key West. He'd been snorkling all day, seen tons of wonderful swimming things. Someone on board caught a 3' barracuda which they threw back. After an initial bout of seasickness he seemed much better yesterday (thank goodness) He's done a night watch (4-6 AM)...but Jack Sparrow must have been out of the area. No pirates or Cuban refugees on his watch!

Today they will have shore leave in Key West all day. Patterson said everyone was ready to be off the ship for a day! They will start their trip back up the coast tomorrow morning and should be back at Sea Base on Thursday afternoon. Sound like fun...for those who don't get motion sick...which definately lets me out!!

It is very quiet here...

Patterson has left the building, and the city...for far away Tishomingo. He will be molding young men's lives this summer by being part of the Slippery Falls Scout Ranch Staff. Even more frightening is that he will be teaching the Scout Merit badge on Citizenship in the Nation (i.e. Bill of Rights, Constitution, good citizenship, etc...I know, I'm a bit amazed myself). I understand that he managed to get the best tent...the one that didn't leak in the torrential rain that poured while he unloaded his gear into it. (good choice I think) If you are interested I have his address and will be happy to share it with you...but not here because there are too many crazies that read random blogs and I don't want him to get any stranger than usual mail!

Need I say more....

Mostly GOOD news!!

So, I got most of my results from my recent surgery. LYMPH SYSTEM is clear!!! Hooray. There was, however some evidence of invasive cells (bastard cells, in the words of my sistah) in the actual tumor--which was removed you remember. So, I will be visiting an oncologist as soon as all the rest of the hormonal studies are in. I'm guessing she will tell me what we do next at that time. Keep the prayers going. I'm feeling good!

I love you....get a mammogram

OK, so most everyone knows by now that I have a small breast cancer (yes, of course because I have a small breast, right!!). I will be having the lump removed on May 23rd outpatient. It will be a long day but luckily I already have a good book picked out to read for the 4 hour wait while I am turning radioactive. If you are a girl, woman (or man with big breasts ;) ) please, please get regular checkups. It is worth the trouble to know that: 1. you don't have anything irregular or 2. that if you do you've done the best you can to catch it very early.
There is your sermon for the day. I am doing fine and will continue to be doing fine for a long time to come! You can plan to join me at the Race for the Cure this October if you feel the urge!! I love you all!

On the Train!

If you haven't taken the train to Ft. Worth...it is very fun! Dano and I went with the Boy Scouts yesterday. Spent a short 3 hours in Stockyards City. Ate a great burger (what else), looked at cowboy hats and boots--didn't come home with any. The boys loved the train, especially the snack car. Great day! Posted by Picasa

Oh Joy...!

Somehow, don't ask me...the MP3 player managed to survive a good washing. I propped it up and turned the blow dryer on it for about an hour on cool. It dried out and charged and Patterson took it with him to camp. I haven't seen it since he's been home so let's all hope to heaven that it isn't in another pocket!!
Elizabeth and I had a great fun girl's night, dinner and rented a movie (a very strange movie) on Friday. Saturday we made cookies, visited with Pete-o-Pie and drove to Weatherford to take pictures of the windmills! Very fun.
Daniel survived his OA initiation....consisting of spending a "night in the woods by himself" and being "starved" (half a banana, a small box of dry cereal, half a hotdog and half a cookie for all of Saturday) and worked to death clearing brush and cleaning campsites. I am very proud that he was brave enough to do all that...not sure I would like to spend the night outside under the stars.
His dog bite is better, still ugly bruises but the wounds are filling in somewhat. He will live.
Tonight we are going to the Hornet's basketball game. We are seeing someone wonderful, but I wouldn't remember his name of course. They are playing Cleveland if that gives anyone a clue. I'm all for the cotton candy and a snowcone.

In other news...

Yes, so I found Patterson's lost MP3 player...that is the good news...well, not really. I found it in the washer when I unloaded it just now...probably dead. I'll let it dry out and try to turn it on, but I don't feel like there's much hope here. Wonder if somehow this will be my fault since I was doing the laundry....probably.
