It is very quiet here...

Patterson has left the building, and the city...for far away Tishomingo. He will be molding young men's lives this summer by being part of the Slippery Falls Scout Ranch Staff. Even more frightening is that he will be teaching the Scout Merit badge on Citizenship in the Nation (i.e. Bill of Rights, Constitution, good citizenship, etc...I know, I'm a bit amazed myself). I understand that he managed to get the best tent...the one that didn't leak in the torrential rain that poured while he unloaded his gear into it. (good choice I think) If you are interested I have his address and will be happy to share it with you...but not here because there are too many crazies that read random blogs and I don't want him to get any stranger than usual mail!

Need I say more....

Mostly GOOD news!!

So, I got most of my results from my recent surgery. LYMPH SYSTEM is clear!!! Hooray. There was, however some evidence of invasive cells (bastard cells, in the words of my sistah) in the actual tumor--which was removed you remember. So, I will be visiting an oncologist as soon as all the rest of the hormonal studies are in. I'm guessing she will tell me what we do next at that time. Keep the prayers going. I'm feeling good!

I love you....get a mammogram

OK, so most everyone knows by now that I have a small breast cancer (yes, of course because I have a small breast, right!!). I will be having the lump removed on May 23rd outpatient. It will be a long day but luckily I already have a good book picked out to read for the 4 hour wait while I am turning radioactive. If you are a girl, woman (or man with big breasts ;) ) please, please get regular checkups. It is worth the trouble to know that: 1. you don't have anything irregular or 2. that if you do you've done the best you can to catch it very early.
There is your sermon for the day. I am doing fine and will continue to be doing fine for a long time to come! You can plan to join me at the Race for the Cure this October if you feel the urge!! I love you all!

On the Train!

If you haven't taken the train to Ft. Worth...it is very fun! Dano and I went with the Boy Scouts yesterday. Spent a short 3 hours in Stockyards City. Ate a great burger (what else), looked at cowboy hats and boots--didn't come home with any. The boys loved the train, especially the snack car. Great day! Posted by Picasa

Oh Joy...!

Somehow, don't ask me...the MP3 player managed to survive a good washing. I propped it up and turned the blow dryer on it for about an hour on cool. It dried out and charged and Patterson took it with him to camp. I haven't seen it since he's been home so let's all hope to heaven that it isn't in another pocket!!
Elizabeth and I had a great fun girl's night, dinner and rented a movie (a very strange movie) on Friday. Saturday we made cookies, visited with Pete-o-Pie and drove to Weatherford to take pictures of the windmills! Very fun.
Daniel survived his OA initiation....consisting of spending a "night in the woods by himself" and being "starved" (half a banana, a small box of dry cereal, half a hotdog and half a cookie for all of Saturday) and worked to death clearing brush and cleaning campsites. I am very proud that he was brave enough to do all that...not sure I would like to spend the night outside under the stars.
His dog bite is better, still ugly bruises but the wounds are filling in somewhat. He will live.
Tonight we are going to the Hornet's basketball game. We are seeing someone wonderful, but I wouldn't remember his name of course. They are playing Cleveland if that gives anyone a clue. I'm all for the cotton candy and a snowcone.

In other news...

Yes, so I found Patterson's lost MP3 player...that is the good news...well, not really. I found it in the washer when I unloaded it just now...probably dead. I'll let it dry out and try to turn it on, but I don't feel like there's much hope here. Wonder if somehow this will be my fault since I was doing the laundry....probably.

Friday, March 24

Spring break over...back to school and midterms (for some). The last snow of the season has come and gone, quickly. The burn ban is lifted (Yea for chimineas!). All is well in the world. Nine more weeks and we will be out of school for the summer! Can you believe it!
I've been industrious...finding lost old friends like Melanie Mosier, John O'Haver, Kevie Crossley (now married to John O'). Got some leads on some other lost friends so hopefully I will find some more of the gang. It is good to reconnect sometimes. I've been feeling the urge to do that for some reason.
Do you like this Easter season purple? My blog is blah so at least it is colorfully blah!!
Elizabeth and I are going to see "BIG BANG" tomorrow night. A musical comedy--hysterical history of the world--from creation forward (at least that's what it sounds like) I'll let you know how that goes! Anne of Green Gables opens next Thursday thru Sunday. Elizabeth's debut in a straight play (we'll hope she doesn't burst forth in song since it isn't a musical). Anyone that wants tickets should let me know or call the Mitchell Hall box office. I think we are going Saturday night (but you know I'll probably go Friday or Sunday too :).
The boys are packing up for their camping weekend. I've been to the library and the book store so if it should rain, snow, sleet or dark of night on me I have something to read! hugs.

Spring Break!!

It's Spring Break!! Hooray!! What are you doing for fun this week? We are hoping for a good zoo day and maybe a trip to the Oklahoma Museum (so my kids can meet Woody). Who knows what other mischief we will get into!! Have a great break all you kiddos (sorry Mimi).

Just in case anyone was worrying...we survived. Mom actually put the jeep in 4 wheel drive and went to Crest just for us...well, that's her story anyway. We did notice that there is new and improved coffee brewing this morning and THAT CAT got real food from a little can! Posted by Picasa

It's a snow day!

Ok, I broke the federal law saying that everyone will go to the grocery at the first hint of a snow flurry...I did not buy massive loads of toilet paper, dishwasher detergent, dog food, cat food or Dr. Pepper...I did not want to believe that after an entire "winter" of 50-70 degree weather that we actually might get more than a dusting... Just for the record, I was wrong. My doggies are thrilled with scrambled eggs and cheese, Bigs thinks half and half is the best. We're eating off of paper plates (I don't even have any hand washing dish soap :) and the boys are about to discover the liquid refreshment that comes out of the faucet! We will survive the ice storm of 2006 in fine form. BECAUSE, I did not violate the 2nd cardinal rule of snow forcasted ...MAKE A TRIP TO THE LIBRARY. We may have to use Kleenex in the potty...but I have books to read! Life is good on this snow day!

Giving Oprah a rest

I'm thinking that I've had enough angst for the week...so I am giving Oprah a rest for a few days...terrorism, bird flu, and teenage suicide all in one week is more than I can manage! I'm thinking an afternoon of Spongebob, Elmo, or Singing in the Rain might be more to my liking for the rest of the week.
Got an email from our friend in Wichita...with the following breaking news...just had to share it with you all.

BENTONVILLE, ARK (AP) -- Some Walmart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item: Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto,California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of WalMart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important."

So, here we go: The top 12 suggested names for Walmart Wine:
12. Chateau Traileur Parc
11. White Trashfindel
10. Big Red Gulp
9. Grape Expectations
8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays"
7. NASCARbernet
6. Chef Boyardeaux
5. Peanut Noir
4. Chateau des Moines
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. World Championship Riesling
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine ...
1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with white meat (Possum) and red meat (squirrel).

And there you have it folks...coming soon to a Walmart near you...but not in Oklahoma!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Drivers Beware...Permit issued!!

Yes, the roads may never be safe again. Patterson passed his permit test today and will be learning to drive starting tomorrow (I will be laying down in the back seat with a blanket over my head..:) So, this is your fair warning...should you see a large red van with a bearded man in the passenger seat screaming loudly and waving his arms GET OUT OF THE WAY! No really, I mean it! (I love you Patterson)

In other news, tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Just in case you've forgotten. Let the frenzy begin.

Almost Christmas!

OK, so I am the least prolific of all the family bloggers...sue me. It just seems I have so much fun reading everyone elses and forget that I have one too!
Yesterday I got up at 5:30 am and began to bake...yes, bake. Bread, pumpkin roll, cookies, butter nip and hot buttered rum mix (OK, so the last two didn't take any baking, just pouring and mixing...and a little, more than a little, tasting). I had all the baked goods well in hand before 9:30 am...got my nails done and wrapped the last two presents. I actually think I am ready which scares me. I'm never ready before 5:25 on Christmas eve. What could I have forgotten??
So, I am up this morning at 5:30 (don't ask, I'm not sure what's up with my internal clock) trying to be quiet (since the boys don't have school). What exactly is there to do at 5:30 am that doesn't require noise? REading emails and blogging!! Cool.

I am headed for the store as soon as it opens (NOT WALMART, which I realize never closes, but I just don't care) to get the Christmas Dance Pictures developed& buy cat food. Then I am going to come home and clean out Elizabeth's car...as much for me as for her. She will be home today!!! Maybe tonight the kids/dad will go get the Christmas tree...do you think it is time yet?
Then we will have the Currier/Ives decorate the Christmas tree with hot buttered rum and popcorn! (yea, right)

My sistah is on her way too!!! Two days in the car without the sewing maching...might be a problem. It is going to be a great Christmas! I can't wait!

I know, I know, what was I thinkin'?

So, I , for some reason, felt compelled to go to the Hefner basketball game on Thursday night. Do I like basketball? No. Do I like Middle School children other than my own? No. Do I like rabid middle school parents of middle school children? NO, NO, NO!!!! There was the mom; wanna be a cheerleader. She could be heard over all the crowd chanting, You gotta wan it to win it ....over and over and over and over. All the kids sitting around her were cracking up and she never stopped. Then there was the dad sitting just below us that had some very rude remark to make no matter what the ref's call was or in whose favor. And the little boy next to me must have poured an entire bottle of AXE on himself because he was making my nose plug up (even worse than it already was with the cold) and my eyes water (yes, that smell does get through clogged nasal passages just in case you need to know)
So, that was the wonderful game. The only good part was that Daniel really wanted to go and he had a good time, so it was all worth it.

In other news, tonight is the Christmas Dance Extravaganza....news and maybe pictures soon! hugs to everyone. Hope your cold is better, my sistah. d

very weird happenings at the Doctor's office...

So, I took Elizabeth to the doctor...we had to wait; no surprise. A woman came in holding what appeared to be a little boy about 2, sleeping on her shoulder. As we eavesdropped on the conversation we surmised that 1. The little boy had somehow gotten rubbing alcohal in his eyes. 2. This had happened the night before and 3. mom was just now getting to the doctor since when he woke up that morning he couldn't open his eyes...Now, it was 11:30 am when we were in the doctor's office....and of course they sent him on to the ER.
Here's my wonderings...why did she wait so long to get the kid to a doctor!!!! Just how did this happen in the first place (I know, accidents happen...even to the best of us). The good part of me says, "well, she probably doesn't have hospital insurance so she wanted to wait and go to the clinic", or, "she is young and doesn't know any better", or, "the kid wasn't crying so she probably just thought he would be ok....but then the MOM comes out in me and "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING WOMAN!!", " Your child may be blinded for all you know and you've waited until lunch time the next day to do anything for him!! A very weird experience.

The good news is that Elizabeth's mono isn't flaring up (her glands are swollen) but she has an infection which can be treated with antibiotics. I, of course, just have the cold from hell. Viral, naturally. And it will go away when it chooses to go away. Isn't life grand!! Only two more days until my Christmas break! Woo Hoo!

Sunday evening

I am home from the infamous "Children's Musical" at New Covenant...not ever to be missed, whether or not I have children performing. It was fabulous, as always. Enthusiasm runs rampant.
Elizabeth and I spent a good part of the afternoon working on the Christmas stocking for Kris. In case you don't know who Kris is (Erin) he is Elizabeth's honey. He is a photographer and is currently attending a photography institute in Massachusetts. He takes really good pictures. You can see them at his web site : www.hypostyle.net. Check out his archives. He will be in Mass. for one more semester and then back in Oklahoma. The stocking is really cute. It is a snowman with a camera. If I had a digital camera....I could take a picture. But since I don't....I can't.
The other really fun thing that I did this evening (after the play, which is at the top of the list)was take Patterson to buy a tuxedo since he actually got asked to the Christmas Dance at PCN. (he is more shocked by the invitation than we are) We found a nice basic tux for just about what it would take to rent one. So we are not feeding him anymore and planning to cut his hands off if his arms grow too long before he wears it at least twice. Now all I have to do (why do these things fall to the mom?) is order a corsage (her dress is orange-what's up with that?) and an engraved bow tie (PU-LEESE). I am leaving the dinner plans and reservations up to him...Arby's?...McDonalds?...Taco Bell? Yes, it has been an eventful day.

It is December...HELP

Ok, so it snuck up on me AGAIN...like it doesn't every year! Here is is December 3 and I have yet to start my Christmas shopping. I would love to be one of those people that have it all done by July 1, wrapped and stashed. It will never happen. What might happen some year is that everyone gets a lovely card that says...A donation in your name has been made to*** you fill in the blank. That is what I would really love to do, but for some reason (namely, my hubby) I'm not feeling able to just blow off the present frenzy yet.

I had planned to make lots of handmade things. What happened to that plan? I'm feeling a bit Charlie Brownish today. Kind of like...what happened to the true meaning of Christmas??? My sister has the right idea and I am enjoying her daily musings on the season. Thanks, Ann!! I just wish it could all be simpler and more spiritual.

Ok, enough of that. I am headed for Patt's bass lesson and then Elizabeth will be coming over to make a stocking for Kris...I am not sure I am really ready for the whole Kris thing, but that is another day! Blessed season to you all. dawn

cow pokes....

OK, so we were excited to be included in the free tickets to the OSU game yesterday...we went, in our orange and black, ready to Ride em Cowboys.... only problem is the boys didn't show up to play...well they were there in body--sort of--as long as no one was running at them or throwing something (like the football) to them. Needless to say it was a painful game for the Pokes. But, there's always next week ...oh yeh, next week...
After that great adventure we went to the hospital to visit Grandpa Art, a bit hopped up on morphene but still feeling pain (poor baby) . A broken hip makes for not good times, but he is keeping his chin up. Surgery tomorrow. Luckily he had Erin to keep him company while Mary snoozed in the chair...well Erin was mostly keeping him company while keeping one eye on the OU game and giving the play by play! I really enjoyed visiting with her and catching up on school and such!
This still feels really silly...but I'll try for a few more days before I delete the whole mess!
